Uncondemned Medieval Red 2018
Very Old “backyard” vineyards in the rural inland Portugal areas are condemned to be abandoned. The wine was a product used at home like olive oil, vegetables or animals. Currently, the next generation can’t live from the land as they have employments elsewhere and no time to care for the land.
So André, the winemaker at Quinta do Montalto, took action and in collaboration with Portuguese Story, decided to save the vines. In 2018 the uncondemned wine project (second year) involves 2 vineyards with 120 -150 years old.
“The Fernão Pires lends a refreshing juiciness to an open-knit but fresh, lively palate, very succulent, with lifted cinnamon, dried fig, violets and tobacco notes to its blackberry and plum fruit. Gently mouth coating, chocolatey tannins remind you this is a red wine. Refreshing with spice and tannin, this truly hybrid wine neatly expresses white and red qualities.” Sarah Ahmed
